Mexican-American artist Becky G (Rebbeca Marie Gomez) is best known for the hit single “Shower” and being an actress who starred in movies and television shows. She is also a spokesmodel for cosmetic brand CoverGirl in 2013. Becky started her career when she was 9 years-old, worked for commercials and modelling to boost the family’s finances.

Born in Inglewood, California on March 2, 1997, Becky comes from a Mexican family. She became part of the second generation who was born in the United States. After her family lost their home due to the economic crisis and moved to a smaller place, she began to work in the entertainment industry to support the family’s finances. The 9-year-old Becky entered a child agent talent and made her career debut in modelling, voiceovers, and commercials.

Because of this, she was targeted for bullying at school. Despite the problems, Becky G still worked hard for the family. She developed her music skills by writing her own music and then learned guitar. Her taste of music was influenced by traditional Mexican music, 1990s hits, and rock classics. In 2011, along with the duo The Jam, she started posting her song cover videos on YouTube and was impressed by a producer, Dr. Luke. She then signed a record deal to RCA Records and Kemosabe Records. As a newcomer, Becky was already involved in several collaborations with great musicians, including wil.i.am and Pitbull. She also participated in the concert tours of Katy Perry and Fifth Harmony.

The single “Becky from the Block” was launched in 2013, with Jennifer Lopez as a cameo in the music video. She also released her debut EP Play It Again in 2013 which featured the lead single “Can’t Get Enough” (feat. Pitbull). In 2008, she took a role as Claudia Gómez in a short movie El Tux and played in Discovery Channel’s La estación de la Calle Olvera as Nina. Becky also played in 2011 movie House of Sin with a role as Rosalia. In 2015, she acted as herself in a series Austin & Ally (2015) and guest starred as Valentina in a television show Empire. She made her big-screen debut through the 2017’s movie version of the 1990s Power Ranger as Tini. Her role became the first ever LGBT protagonist to present in a great superhero movie. Becky also lent her voice in Gnome Alone (2017) and took a role in an adventure movie A.X.L (2018).
